Out of the dust emerged the gem.
The elbow grease was beginning to payoff and some of the old shine was coming back.
What were we working with was more than we could have ever imagined.
But we were going to have to do some infrastructural stuff to bring the shop to within spec for it’s new chapter…
The Johnson’s Post Character Bathrooms came into being when Oom Basie and I were discussing water. Water for coffee. As in not brak water. And the tank on the side of the shop wasn’t going to hold water again. Minus a portion of a round wall, add an exiting toilet space and a slice of “round the back” storage and we have restroom setup that should prove comfortable.
This late in the year we’re not sure we’ll have the handrail yet for the 2 stairs but it will be easy to use and safe.

We have a section where fridges will house Tollies Slaghuis Products, and other local favorites, including Oom Basie se plaas chickens. Those olympic versions of the good old farm chicken. We will have ready made meals and homemade ice-cream and other little things for sale in the frozen section. Venison will be found here seasonally.
All things Tollies that you’ve come to know and love about the brand and the man will be proudly represented here.
The Post Office is now the Barista Station – the home of the coffee machine – and this is the beating heart of the shop. This is what I promised I would bring to Johnson’s Post for December, and this is what I have managed to achieve – all else that the shop can be shall grow from this humble space.
What can I offer you? From mid December, we plan to switch the coffee machine on – operated by the very capable and experienced Sibs who joins our team from Saturday. Date’s to be announced!
And the journey of a thousand yards begins with a single, humble step.
Once the lights are on we’ll fill in the spaces.
