Thank you for a busy market Saturday
What a turnout. The market this past Saturday was one of our better ones, and the shop was full from early. Thank you to everyone who made the drive out.
That kind of morning is exactly what this old building was built for. Good coffee, full tables, people standing around the counter talking too long. We do not take it for granted.
We are closed from 31 August to 3 September
The shop will be shut from Monday 31 August through to Thursday 3 September. We reopen on Friday 4 September at our normal time.
If you were planning a stop on your way past the Gouritz this week, rather come the weekend after. You will find us exactly where we have always been, coffee machine warm and doors open.
While we are closed, the coffee bar, shop and kitchen are all shut. Anything you send through our contact page will be answered when we are back on the 4th.
Next market day: Saturday 12 September
Then mark the calendar properly, because the next Johnson’s Post market lands on Saturday 12 September.
Expect the usual spread. Fresh coffee and pannekoek, cakes and pies from the kitchen, free range chicken and veggies from the farms around us, biltong, and a few tables of local makers with things worth taking home. The river view is free.
It is an easy morning out from Mossel Bay and a natural stop if you are driving the coastal meander. Come early if you want a table in the shade, and bring the dogs. There is water for them at the door.
A bit of history, if you have not been before
Johnson’s Post sits in the old post office building above the Gouritz River. It has been in the family since the beginning, and over the years it has served as a general dealer, a butchery, a bakery and a working post office. These days it is a country store and coffee stop on one of the prettiest stretches of the Garden Route.
If you enjoy the slower version of the story, John writes about the rebuild and the daily rhythm of the place over on John’s Posts.
