I wanted to share the news that I am opening Johnson’s Post as a trading coffee shop, with 7 days a week trade during December 2025.  My plan is simple – a coffee machine and a barista with a vibe and some staying power.  I recon we could get busy. He or she will need the energy.  My thinking is that the biggest risk I face is not doing it.  And anyway, I know a thing or 2 about coffee.  At least more about coffee than art.  But thats a story for a different day.

I’m sharing this with you because you feature in the architecture of what I’m envisioning for the space.  For Johnson’s Post.  Which is a venue.  A place.  On the map.  Check it out.  And it opened its doors at the behest of my great great grandfather, John McKenzie Johnson, born on June 15th 1853.

If you’re receiving this from me you know some of the story and why it’s important to me.  And I’ve been talking about it a lot.  But talking has morphed into action and by selecting a date – 1st December 2025 – I’ve made a commitment.
But if you know me you’ll also know that a coffee machine for a December isn’t going to cut it, so it’s just the beginning of so much more.
My name is John McKenzie Johnson and I would like to welcome you to this Johnson’s first post.  To be followed by many more such posts, a running commentary, so to speak, from the vantage point of the author.  Me.
For the words to remain truthful – an essential element of healing – they need to convey meaning.
Tonight, on the first day of this commitment to myself, to you, I salute Nicci Robertson in particular, for I have put pen to paper and taken the leap.
Tomorrow more words will follow, but tonight they are writ.  They are not perfect, and they have not passed my many tests / delays / excuses today.
Today they are real, unfiltered and in your inbox because I had to do it.  Tomorrow is the first of a new month…
